Burt

Final animation of BURT

BURT

Project synopsis:
Final major project

Project grade: First                 Time scale: 15 weeks.

Brief: The brief was to create our own project using the best skills we had acquired during our time at university. It was intended that we play to our strengths and produce our most accomplished project using mature and decisive knowledge of not only the software available to us, but our skills and as a CG artist and creative designer. The project was to be seen from beginning to end by ourselves so project management and a mature project pipeline understanding was needed.

The story behind Burt

Burt is an old age pensioner and more importantly, an ex World War 2 RAF fighter pilot. He's spending his last restful years being stuck indoors, very much bored, where his only opportunity to re-live his glory days is in his dreams. One afternoon, after finding that there is still nothing exciting to watch on television, Burt settles into his old armchair and begins to fall asleep. As Burt returns to the cockpit in his dreams, a fly unknowingly finds itself inside Burt’s living room only to wreak havoc on his desperate attempts to nap. Eventually, when Burt can no longer stand the fly interrupting his naps, he decides to take matters into his own hands and take on the fly himself!

He slips into his imaginative world where bringing down the fly is just as important as bringing down an enemy plane, chasing the fly across his living room in the safety of his imaginative old plane. The chase finally ends when Burt manages to end the enemy plane which of course is in actual fact, the fly. As the dust cloud from the impact disperses, it brings him back to reality and in his room that has been at his mercy during the chase. With all of Burt’s furniture out of place, and in some cases broken, all Burt feels is the pride he once felt all those years ago, and his pulse race faster then he thought it ever could. The fly had brought Burt back to life.
